Eyewear Packaging Experience
Opportunity
Caddis Eyewear approached us to package their modern reading glasses but with a twist- they wanted the glasses to be the first thing a customer saw when unboxing the package. This opened the door to challenges with ensuring the product would stay secure and unscathed inside the box while being tossed and thrown throughout shipping from factory to warehouse and finally to the customer.
The Process
We created notches in the sides of the insert to let the edge of the glasses sit snug and prevent the glasses from shifting but kept enough space that it was still easy to take the glasses out.
Immediately underneath the glasses, the fold was designed to have extra space that let it move up and down for if the top of the box was pressed downwards, the glasses would have enough space to move downwards and prevent damage to the lens.
Exhibit A: Side notches for secure product placement
The glasses case included with the package sat securely at the bottom with another small insert to keep it flush as the dimensions of the box were slightly wider than the travel case.
The Outcome
We racked our brains to create the perfect insert that would keep the glasses secure and had enough give to allow the glasses to move up and down to prevent it from being crushed.
The paper we used for the inside of the box was also crucial as it had to be smooth enough to not scratch the lenses. Our team went through 5 iterations of boxes and inserts before finally arriving at the solution.
